Red Bull Soap Box Philly

I recently hosted the Red Bull Soap Box race in Philadelphia. The production was huge, and a crazy amount of people came out dispite the hurricane that was going on. I was one of 4 hosts and I did the pre-interviews of all the teams with Jenny Johnson from NECN. I was posted up at the judges stand during the event with Preston and Steve (local radio personalities) Kevin Robinson, Ricky Oyola, Brianna from Real World Hollywood, and Gary Gardella. Even though I was completely soaked head to toe, I had fun interviewing the judges after each craft and pumping up the Philly crowd. Huge Props to our other hosts, Dave Farra and Jerry Bernardo.

Nelson At The Soul Bowl

Last week was pretty rad. I was out in Coolifornia commentating the Soul Bowl Event in Huntington Beach. The legends contest was pretty much the most surreal thing that has happened in my life. I know that most people know me from snowboard announcing, but the reality is that I have been skateboarding WAY longer than I have been snowboarding, and I have spent a good portion of my life dedicated to skateboarding history and knowledge. So you would guess I was pretty stoked to be involved with a world class bowl contest. Legends such as Steve Caballero, Lester Kasai, Mike McGill, Tony Magnusson, and Duane Peters were shredding the 12ft elbow style bowl. Pros like Sandro Dias, Omar Hasson, Brian Patch, and Chris Gentry absolutely lit the place on fire. The highlight for me was interviewing Dave Duncan and Eddie Reatagui about how they started the DAGGERS!!! This was a highlight in my announcing career. It was a pleasure working with Eric "Tuma" Britton and Steve Swope during the commentary.

For those of you who got to check out the action, thanks for the support.........

Manny Mania

Last Saturday I announced the Redbull Manny Mania. This was an open event, so a ton of people came out to both skate and spectate. After weeding down some of the pre-lim heats, there was some seriously good skating to watch for the semi's and finals. Some of the highlights were Marshell Heath's switch manny tricks. These included switch flip in and out of mannys and switch manny to switch varial heelflip out. Nate Jackson killed the A Frame manny pad with a bunch of sick shuv-it combinations, and Kyle Burroughs showed off his balance with using the a frame as one feature going up and down with precise balance and technique. The winner at the end of the day was Dillon Buss. This kid came up from Cape Cod and shredded everything in front of him. Every manny combination was thrown down, and he looked outside the box and got very technical with flip in flip out combos, and grind in shov-it out combos. Congradulations goes out to Dillon for killing it, and a huge thanks to Matt Fasano, Pete Brinkerhoff, Mary Walsh, the MSI crew, and of course Red Bull and Embasi for throwing down the contest.

New York City........

I was just in NYC hosting the Redbull Experiment for Kevin Robinson. This was a pretty crazy production and there were thousands of people in central park to watch Kevin try to break the world record air on a bike. Things got dramatic when he was having some trouble riding away from the 20ft plus airs. He became a victor and broke the current world record of 26.5 feet by 6 inches. I had a great time and got to meet David Letterman and Talib Kweli. Congradulations to Kevin for a spectatcular event. Thanks to Redbull and EXPN for having me host the event.
